We all know that our country's success in the past as a major trading hub was due its strategic location in the Far East. Located at the natural meeting point of sea routes at the tip of the Malay Peninsula, Singapore had long known visits from a wide variety of sea craft, from Chinese junks, Indian vessels, Arab dhows and Portuguese battleships to Buginese schooners.
OK...that's HISTORY...BUT NOW?
Now, to me, her "strategic" location has become a PROBLEM for her.
WHY?
Being in a "Neighbourhood of a Ghetto", I called it.
A Neighbourhood where Emotions prevailed & Logic thrown out of the window.
Where nationalist viewpoints is way above commonsense.
Above all that is the BIG J.
Not J-Lo, but the green-eyed monster, J-E-A-L-O-U-S-L-Y.
STILL NOT SURE WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT?
HERE'S:
a) Indonesia banned the sale of sand to Singapore.
They claimed environmental concerns and the need to protect its borders.
REALLY?
b) Malaysia's Johor Chief Minister Abdul Ghani Othman told the New Straits Times that it was Singapore's reclamation project on Tekong island, close to the Johor river, that caused it to flood. He claimed that this caused the mouth of the river to narrow and excess rain water could not be discharged. The river then burst its banks in Kota Tinggi, he said, submerging homes and streets.
TOTALLY INSANE?
c) Thailand's lost to Singapore in the 1st leg soccer final of the Asean Cup due to a controversial penalty was link to the sale of Shincorp to Temasek lah, Singapore "bought" the Malaysian referee to win the game lah....etc
ABSOLUTELY MAD?
To me, it is really sad when someone fails to see things objectively.....What worse is when that person is a top ranking government official, a country national team coach or person of high-standing!
They are NOT goons & the influence of their statement is definitely far-reaching to their country's common men. However, most of the time, the comments they made are due to self-interest and political mileage.
HOW SAD........maybe Singapore is in the WRONG NEIGHBOURHOOD!
